Highland Council is required to recommend refusal of an application when a statutory body objects. Therefore, the recommendation to refuse permission for the Coul Links development was expected.
The single remaining objection from statutory bodies is narrow – representing a very small part of a 1,200-hectare area - and is the culmination of three years of intensive, thorough and professional consultation with these organisations.
The report to the planning committee is clear that without this one objection, the application would be supported. It acknowledges the broad support for the development, its potential economic impact and the benefits it could bring to Sutherland and the wider Highlands.
To our mind, the positives present a one-off opportunity for the area and far outweigh any potential negatives.
We look forward to the councillors’ deliberations on Tuesday.
